Some fisherman out early at Honolulu Harbor. Catching something is important, but enjoying the moment is what fishing is really all about.
Three cutters moored Base Honolulu today, Saturday, March 2nd... USCGC Morgenthau/722, USCGC Kukui/203 & USCGC Walnut/205. I have so many fond memories of the base and the cutters that I served on there (Munro and Buttonwood) and visited (Mellon, Jarvis, Rush, Basswood, Mallow, Sassafras). Those who serve in the Coast Guard and are stationed at the Base or one of the cutters are very fortunate.
The famous Aloha Tower which is located at Pier 9, Honolulu, Harbor. It was built in 1926 and was lit at night so return fishing boats could more easily navigate the harbor. About 30 years ago the Aloha Marketplace was built and many nightclubs, bars/restaurants and shops can be found there.
The Falls of Clyde in Honolulu Harbor. This old ship is in a real bad state of disrepair. The city of Honolulu has sought local company financial assistance to get her back into good condition but no one has stepped up to the plate. If she continues to sit and rot it won't be long before she will become irreparable and have to be scrapped.
Pride of America, Norwegian Cruise Line, tied up in Honolulu Harbor. Every weekend there are cruise ships in Honolulu Harbor, sometimes up to four or five. Today I only saw her. Cruisers will get full day and overnight for shopping, sight seeing and night life before she departs on Sunday.
